Sacramental Preparation is for children who wish to receive their First Reconciliation and their First Holy Communion.
Sacrament of Holy Communion Requirements:
1. Our archdiocese requires that the family must live within parish boundaries or be registered parishioners in our parish. If your family is not yet registered, please do so ASAP. If your family is registered with another parish, a letter from the pastor where you are registered must be given to the DRE prior to registering your child in the Sacramental Preparation Class.
2. The child must be already baptized Catholic (if your child was baptized in another Christian faith, please see the RCIA section). Please provide a copy of his/her Catholic baptismal certificate to the church office at registration. We cannot register any child in our sacramental preparation program without the baptismal certificate.
3. Student must have been enrolled in Faith Formation program for at least one year prior (1st grade Faith Formation or Catholic school). If student was not enrolled in Faith Formation program prior, please contact Alison Medina, DRE at [email protected] to determine eligibilty.
4. The child must be in the 2nd to 5th Grade, and be at least seven years old, by the date of enrollment (if your child is in the 6th grade or higher and has not received his/her First Communion, please see the RCIA section).
5. The child must be able to attend the classses on a regular basis.
6. Attendance at all parent and family (parent/child) sessions is mandatory and required by the parish. Several opportunities are available for each session. Please plan all other activities around this calendar so you do not miss any session.
What do we do in Sacramental Preparation?
Parents meet with their child for Family Sessions in Sacramental Preparation. The parent is an integral part of each child’s preparation for these sacraments and activities are centered around this parent/child team. The parents work with the child at home on the material as well as providing opportunities for prayer and weekly Mass attendance.
